We are partnered with an established, growing life science tools company, who specialises in protein biomarker analysis and highly sensitive immunoassay technologies. We are looking for a Director to lead a geographically distributed Field Application Scientist organisation of more than 20 people, including regional managers and highly experienced scientific specialists.
This is not a purely technical leadership position. The successful candidate will be expected to connect scientific support with commercial performance, customer satisfaction and wider business objectives.
The role will be responsible for:
- Leading, coaching and developing regional FAS managers and their teams (20+ team members)
- Establishing clear KPIs, performance expectations and career-development plans
- Aligning field applications strategy with sales and commercial priorities
- Improving how resources are deployed across territories and customer accounts
- Partnering with Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Service and Technical Support
- Representing Field Applications within commercial leadership discussions
- Acting as an escalation point for complex customer and scientific challenges
- Maintaining a collaborative, accountable and psychologically safe team culture
We are looking for someone with:
- Significant experience leading a large scientific, applications or technical-support organisation
- Previous responsibility for managers or team leaders, not only individual contributors
- Experience managing a geographically distributed team of approximately 20 people or more
- Strong commercial awareness and experience using KPIs to measure team impact
- A background supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology or life science research customers
- Knowledge of protein biochemistry, immunoassays or adjacent biomarker technologies
- The credibility and humility to lead a highly experienced, high-performing team
A PhD or equivalent scientific background is preferred, although substantial relevant industry experience will also be considered.
